Frequently Asked Questions – FAQ

Question:

How often should I service my kitchen hood and exhaust system?

Answer:

Every commercial kitchen is different. Some kitchens require more frequent service than others due to the type and volume of cooking. Master Cleaner can help you create a service cycle that caters to your specific kitchen needs.

Question:

Why do I need to clean the hood system frequently?

Answer:

In order to keep your establishment safe, sanitary, and environmentally friendly to all staff and clientele, regular hood and exhaust service is required. Accumulation of grease can become a fire hazard. Under high temperatures, grease buildup can disperse and ignite causing substantial damage, and threaten the lives of anyone nearby. The collection of grease can spill over from the hood onto the kitchen cooking space consequently contaminating the food being cooked.
Question:

What will the hood and exhaust service include?

Answer:

Hood and exhaust fan services includes hood/flue, duct, and exhaust fan cleaning, grease containment, and service certification after completion of work.
Question:

How long does the service take to complete?

Answer:

Duration of service varies between hood size, grease build-up, etc. but we will provide you with an approximate time frame after scheduling your appointment.

Question:

Do I need to be there for service?

Answer:

It is not required that you are present during time of service. Most of our service appointments are scheduled after closing hours when the kitchen is not being operated. You can confide in our trusting technicians to take care of your establishment. For safety reasons, we cannot perform service during operating business hours.

Question:

What happens if I don’t service the hood and exhaust fan?

Answer:

According to the National Fire Protection Association, the majority of kitchen fires stem from cooking appliances and flare into the kitchen exhaust system. In case the entire exhaust system is not cleaned, a serious risk for a fire to occur may arise whenever cooking appliances are in operation. Additionally, your establishment may be prone to food contamination, increasing heat temperature in the kitchen, and smoke buildup. Moreover, not serving your hood and exhaust system is a health code, fire, and insurance violation.

Question:

Do you install hood systems?

Answer:

Master Cleaner provides maintenance, cleaning, and repair services. We do NOT install hood systems.

Answer:

Question:

Why do I need to hire a professional service company to clean my hood?

Answer:

A professional hood cleaning company is insured and certified to perform and comply with health and fire code compliance. State and city laws require cleaning of hood systems be performed by qualified personal who are trained and equipped to remove grease and handle specialized chemicals (NFPA 2011).

Question:

How do I find a reputable company?

Answer:

Finding a company to entrust your commercial kitchen with can be overwhelming. Here are some tips to know before booking any company. First, check that the company has more than ten years of experience in the industry. Second, search the web for any reviews or feedback they may have from current customers. Lastly, find out if the company guarantees their services, in any case that you are not completely satisfied with the work.

Additional tips:

  • Hire an insured service provider who specializes in hood system services
  • Ask if they comply with NFPA standards, which are the codes your local health inspectors and Fire marshal’s look out for.
  • Check that they provide proof of service certificate sticker. The service sticker is applied after completion of work and displays the date of service performed and expiration date.
